Castledoyle Retreat Off-Grid
Designed as a secondary dwelling on a rural family property, this off-grid home was created to support independent living while keeping loved ones close.
The brief focused on providing a comfortable, low-maintenance home that would allow family members to age in place with dignity, privacy and connection to their surroundings. Thoughtful planning ensures accessibility, ease of movement and adaptability for changing needs over time, while maintaining a strong sense of home rather than feeling institutional.
Modest in scale yet generous in experience, the dwelling embraces natural light, carefully framed rural views and a simple palette of durable materials. An off-grid energy system provides resilience and self-sufficiency, allowing the home to operate independently while remaining connected to the broader family property.
Designed to support multiple generations living together, this project demonstrates how thoughtful architecture can strengthen family connections, provide long-term flexibility and create a lasting place to call home.
